Residence is current living place. Domicile is permanent home state (harder to change).
Varies by state, usually 6 months to 1 year of continuous residence.
College admissions, state quota jobs, state-specific schemes.
Common documents include identity proof (Aadhaar, Voter ID), address proof (Utility bill, Rent agreement), property documents or rent receipts, educational certificates (like 10th/12th mark sheets) to prove length of stay, and an affidavit.
While often used interchangeably, a Residence Certificate simply proves you currently live at a specific address. A Domicile Certificate is stronger and proves that a particular state is your permanent home, usually requiring proof of continuous residence for 10-15 years.
