Under Section 12 of the NFSA, the eldest woman (aged 18+) in the household must be designated as the Head of the Family for ration card issuance.

How to add/delete members, update mobile numbers, or correct names on your Ration Card:
Visit your state Food & Civil Supplies portal and select 'Ration Card Modification / Correction'.
Authenticate using the mobile OTP linked to the head of the family.
Upload the relevant proof (Birth Certificate for newborn, Marriage Certificate for wife, or Death Certificate for deletion).
The local Supply Inspector approves the update within 15 working days.

Track your new Ration Card or member addition application status:
Visit nfsa.gov.in or your state food portal and select 'Track Ration Card Application Status'.
Type your online application reference number.
Check if your application is under Supply Inspector field inquiry, approved by the District Supply Officer (DSO), or issued.
1) Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY / Yellow/Pink Card): For the poorest households, entitled to 35 kg of foodgrains per family per month. 2) Priority Household (PHH): For eligible low-income families, entitled to 5 kg of foodgrains per person per month. 3) Non-NFSA / APL (Above Poverty Line): For general households used primarily as address/identity proof.
ONORC enables any NFSA beneficiary to collect their entitled subsidized or free foodgrains from ANY Fair Price Shop (FPS) anywhere in India using their existing ration card and biometric Aadhaar authentication on the electronic Point of Sale (ePoS) machine, without needing a new card.
1) Visit your state food department portal (e.g., fcs.up.gov.in, mahafood.gov.in). 2) Select 'Citizen Corner > Add Member in Ration Card'. 3) Enter the Ration Card Number. 4) Upload the Birth Certificate (for newborn) or Marriage Certificate & Aadhaar (for spouse). 5) Submit for Supply Inspector verification.

Under Section 12 of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) 2013, the eldest woman in the family who is not less than 18 years of age is officially designated as the Head of the Household.
