How to Change Address in Voter ID Card Online (Form 8) - 2026 Guide
The Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC), commonly known as the Voter ID card, is issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI). If you have relocated to a new city, state, or even moved houses within the same assembly constituency, keeping your address updated on the electoral roll is mandatory so that you can vote in your local polling station.
Form 8 vs. Form 6: Which Form to Use?
- Form 6: Exclusively for first-time voter registration (citizens turning 18 or those never registered before).
- Form 8: The universal form for Shifting of Residence (within or outside your Assembly Constituency), correction of entries (name, photo, DOB), and replacement of a damaged/lost Voter ID.

Step-by-Step Online Process on voters.eci.gov.in
- Step 1: Visit voters.eci.gov.in and sign in using your mobile number and OTP.
- Step 2: From the main dashboard, click on 'Form 8 (Shifting of residence / Correction of entries)'.
- Step 3: Select 'Self' or 'Other elector' and enter your 10-character EPIC number to load your details.
- Step 4: Select the option 'Shifting of Residence' and specify whether it is 'Within Assembly Constituency' or 'Outside Assembly Constituency'.
- Step 5: Enter your new complete residential address and upload your self-attested proof of address document (PDF/JPEG up to 2MB).
- Step 6: Review the preview, submit Form 8, and record your unique Application Reference Number (ARN).
Verification and Downloading Updated e-EPIC
Your application will be assigned to the local Booth Level Officer (BLO) who conducts a brief physical or telephonic address verification. Once approved by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), you can instantly download your updated digital e-EPIC PDF from voters.eci.gov.in. A freshly printed PVC Voter ID card will also be delivered to your doorstep via Speed Post free of charge.
